Join The Drunken Bean and jazz trumpet performer, Marques Carroll.
For the diverse trumpeter who has spent the last 32 years of life pursuing music with dedication and determination, Marques has turned his passion into a career and a life long journey. To say that Jazz is his only plateau would limit his overall playing ability and knowledge of music.
Marques has become a top call freelance musician who has played lead trumpet for The Chicago Sestet, the Chicago Jazz Ensemble and as a soloist/section performer with such artists as blues guitarist Guy King, Aretha Franklin, The Ojays, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Cliff Wallace Big Band, Typhanie Monique, Victor Goines Ensemble. Marques also had the pleasure of traveling to perform throughout Europe, Vietnam and Montreal in various jazz festivals. Marques is currently the new permanent fourth trumpet player with The Count Basie Orchestra, the leader of The Trumpet Summit and the co-leader of the Chicago Soul Jazz Collective.
As he continues to stay active on the music scene in Chicago, education has also remained a major passion for Marques. Currently, he is the Musical Director for the Chicago Jesuit Academy. He has written the course outline and curriculum in which students are exposed to jazz history, theory and instrumental pedagogy. This program has become a cornerstone for the school itself and has provided many students the opportunity to continue their love for music on a higher level. Marques continues to do great work within the Chicago Public School System giving clinics, master classes in trumpet and music performance and working as a mentor to young trumpeters associated with Chicago's Jazz Institute.
